Ed Sheeran has been convicted and fined for failing to insure his classic 1966 Aston Martin. The singer-songwriter sent the silver model for restoration and conversion to an electric car in 2021.
In December 2025, the DVLA identified that Sheeran had not paid for insurance while the restoration work was ongoing. Sheeran, 35, informed Bradford Magistrates' Court by letter on Friday that he believed the workshop's insurance covered his car and that it had not been on the road for five years.
He pleaded guilty to keeping a motor vehicle that did not meet insurance requirements. He was ordered to pay a £666 fine, £100 in costs, and a £266 victim surcharge. Sheeran stated the car has remained under the control of the Durham-based workshop since 2021 and has been kept off public roads.
Sheeran called the situation a "genuine administrative misunderstanding" and mentioned the car was declared off-road with a SORN notice on 1 February this year. He also stated he never received the DVLA's initial offer of an out-of-court fine.
