Global head of football Edu has departed Nottingham Forest, concluding a spell of just over a year at the City Ground. His exit, with his contract believed to have been terminated, had been anticipated, as he had not attended any games since February.
Edu's position reportedly came under scrutiny following a disagreement with Nuno Espirito Santo, who was sacked in September 2025. Nuno was the first of four managers at Forest last season, and he had hinted at internal tensions, stating at the time that his relationship with owner Evangelos Marinakis had changed.
Appointed in July 2025, Edu's remit also included Greek side Olympiacos and Portuguese club Rio Ave, both owned by Marinakis. He is not expected to be replaced, with George Syrianos, Forest's chief football officer, set to take on his responsibilities. Edu's departure follows the appointment of former Olympiacos vice-president Theodore Giannikos as chief executive last week, who replaced Lina Souloukou.
