Emily Campbell has successfully defended her +86kg weightlifting title at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. The athlete secured her second consecutive gold medal in the event, setting new Games records in the process.
Campbell achieved a new clean and jerk best of 163kg and a winning total of 278kg, which also included a 115kg snatch. Following her victory, she performed a Highland jig.
Beyond her sporting achievements, Campbell is preparing for a television appearance, with her MasterChef debut scheduled for later this summer.
The 32-year-old, who won Olympic silver in Tokyo five years ago, is considering her future in elite sport. She acknowledged the physical demands of competing in her thirties, stating that recovery takes longer. A decision on whether she will pursue a third Olympics in Los Angeles is expected to be made later this year, with Campbell indicating she would only compete if genuinely capable of a medal.
