Former US Open champion Emma Raducanu is set to miss this month's tournament in New York. The 23-year-old has a stress fracture in her right leg, an injury sustained during the grass-court season that also forced her to withdraw from Wimbledon.
Following consultations with her medical team, Raducanu has concluded she will be unable to play. This latest setback follows a challenging 12 months for the player, marked by persistent physical issues.
Last summer saw Raducanu make positive progress, including winning matches at Flushing Meadows for the first time since her 2021 triumph. However, a foot injury hampered her pre-season training, and she later spent two-and-a-half months off court with a post-viral illness.
Raducanu returned for the end of the clay-court season, reuniting with coach Andrew Richardson. Her run to the Queen's Club final in June, one of her best performances since New York, reportedly triggered her current leg injury.
Her absence from Great Britain's Billie Jean King Cup finals team in late September raises questions about whether she will compete again in 2026. Raducanu, currently ranked 49, is expected to slide further down the rankings.
