  • Raducanu also withdrew from Wimbledon due to the same injury.

British number one Emma Raducanu is set to miss the US Open as she continues her recovery from a stress fracture. The injury to her right lower leg, sustained during the grass-court season, also led to her late withdrawal from Wimbledon.

The 23-year-old, who was a surprise champion at Flushing Meadows in 2021, made the decision after recent consultations with her medical team. She had only recently returned to court wearing a protective boot.

The past 12 months have presented persistent physical challenges for Raducanu, including a foot injury that impacted her pre-season training and a two-and-a-half-month period off court due to a post-viral illness. Despite these setbacks, she reached her biggest final since New York at Queen's Club in June, but has not played since.

Why this matters: The absence of the 2021 champion from the US Open marks a significant development for the tournament and for British tennis.
