The Betfred St Leger Stakes, the world's oldest Classic race, is scheduled to take place today, 11 September 2026, at Doncaster. Racing correspondent Jonathan Doidge has tipped Enceladus to win the Group 1 race.
Enceladus, trained by Joseph O'Brien, has achieved a flawless three-race unbeaten run at lower levels this season. The colt has shown an ability to handle slower ground, despite recent wins on fast ground at Royal Ascot and in Glorious Goodwood's Group 3 Gordon Stakes.
Other contenders in the race include Epsom Derby winner Christmas Day, trained by Aidan O'Brien, and his stablemate Pierre Bonnard. Highwayman, Alderman, and Hatteen are also considered.
The St Leger Stakes is part of the four-day St Leger Festival, which is currently on its third day.
