Energy UK has welcomed the Prime Minister's pledge to bring energy costs in the UK in line with other European countries. Dhara Vyas, Energy UK's chief executive, responded to the Prime Minister's speech at the Labour Party Conference today, stating that the energy industry has long advocated for government action to reduce energy costs for households and businesses.
Ms Vyas highlighted the importance of investing in and expanding the grid to achieve lower costs and boost productivity. She noted that the vast majority of the estimated £90 billion investment required in transmission infrastructure over the coming years is expected to come from the private sector.
Energy UK also stated its anticipation of further details regarding the proposed GB Grid and how it could address challenges related to the supply chain, skills, and planning. The organisation emphasised the continued need for the government to act this winter to provide immediate assistance with bills, urging the removal of policy costs from electricity bills.
