England asserted control on the opening day of the First Test against Pakistan at Headingley, bowling the visitors out for 171 before reaching 112 for two by stumps.
Ollie Robinson led the charge for England, claiming his fifth five-wicket haul in Test cricket with figures of five for 51 from 18 overs. Josh Tongue also impressed, taking five for 46 to share all 10 wickets between them. Robinson struck with the first ball of the series, trapping Azan Awais lbw.
In response, England's captain Joe Root, playing his 167th Test, was 37 not out, alongside Jordan Cox on 23 not out. Their partnership added 64 runs, leaving England 59 runs behind Pakistan's total.
