England flanker Sam Underhill is set to miss the Nations Championship this autumn after rupturing his bicep during Bath's opening Premiership game against Harlequins. Underhill, 30, was substituted in the 48th minute of the match.
The injury will require surgery later this week, with Bath expecting him to be out of action until December or January. This means Underhill will miss a significant part of the domestic season, in addition to England's three November internationals against Australia, Japan, and New Zealand.
Bath head of rugby Johann van Graan stated he immediately recognised the seriousness of the injury when Underhill left the pitch. Van Graan told BBC Radio Somerset that a scan confirmed his initial suspicion of a biceps rupture.
Underhill has 51 caps for England and played in all five Six Nations matches this year. He previously missed summer internationals for shoulder surgery.
