The Environment Agency is currently investigating an illegal waste site near Hinckley in Leicestershire, following its closure by local partners. The site, located on land off the A47 Leicester Road, was discovered on 5 August 2026.
Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council and Leicestershire Police took swift action to shut down the site and prevent further environmental damage. The Environment Agency has now taken the lead in the ongoing investigation.
The agency is appealing for public assistance, asking anyone with information, dash cam footage, mobile phone footage, or CCTV to come forward. This action aligns with the Environment Agency's 10 Point Plan, which aims to enhance its response to suspected waste crime.
A spokesperson for the Environment Agency stated they are leading the investigation after partners secured the site. They also urged the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity, such as tipper, skip, or articulated lorries entering derelict sites or fields, to help tackle illegal waste activity.
