Everton's Carabao Cup third-round match against Championship side Wolves has been rescheduled, with the fixture now set for 16 September instead of the original 9 September date. The change comes just nine days before the game was initially due to be played.
The move was necessitated after UEFA confirmed Liverpool's Champions League campaign would begin at Anfield against Atletico Madrid on 9 September. Merseyside Police regulations prevent both Liverpool and Everton from playing home games on the same night.
The EFL had appealed to UEFA to alter Liverpool's European fixture, but the request was rejected as European matches take precedence. This shift also means Liverpool's Carabao Cup tie against Tottenham will now be played on a Tuesday, moving from its original Wednesday slot.
A further consequence of the fixture congestion is that Wolves' Championship game against Portsmouth has been pushed back to 20 October, after the first international break.
