FAI board urged to resign over 'shambolic' handling of Israel games

The FAI board and CEO are facing calls to resign following the Republic of Ireland's recent match against Israel and ahead of their second fixture.

  • People Before Profit-Solidarity TD Ruth Coppinger has called for the FAI board and CEO to resign.
  • The Republic of Ireland secured a 3-0 victory over Israel in Hungary on Sunday.
  • The two teams are scheduled to meet again this Sunday in Serbia, at a neutral venue behind closed doors.

The board and CEO of the Football Association of Ireland (FAI) should resign over their "shambolic, arrogant, and incompetent" management of the national team's fixtures against Israel, according to People Before Profit-Solidarity TD Ruth Coppinger.

This call comes after the Republic of Ireland's 3-0 victory over Israel in Debrecen, Hungary, on Sunday. The two teams are set to play again this Sunday in Backa Topola, Serbia, with the match moved to a neutral venue behind closed doors by the FAI due to "operational challenges."

Goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu refused to play in Sunday's match on "principle." Republic of Ireland boss Heimir Hallgrimsson has admitted his squad remains uncertain about their approach to the upcoming game, stating the team is 'all uncomfortable' ahead of the fixture.
