The family of Brenton Marriott, who was fatally stabbed by his son four years ago, has expressed feeling "paralysed" by the ongoing wait for a domestic homicide review (DHR) to be finalised.
Brenton Marriott died in hospital on 5 August 2022, after being stabbed by Rudi Marriott in Lenton, Nottingham. Rudi, who has paranoid schizophrenia, was sentenced to a hospital order two years ago after being found guilty of manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility.
A DHR, initiated on 9 January 2023 to examine the circumstances of Brenton's death, has not yet been completed. Government guidance states that such reviews should be finished within six months.
Delvin Marriott, Brenton's brother, said the delay in receiving answers about the events leading up to his brother's death is causing significant stress for the grieving family. He added that the family feels "paralysed" by the process and the trauma continues to affect them all.
The DHR is investigating contact between Rudi, his family, and relevant agencies from 2019 until the fatal attack. Nottinghamshire Police stated they would not comment until the DHR is completed, while Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust offered sympathies and said they would consider the review's findings and recommendations.
