Five people are being held on suspicion of murder after a newborn baby girl died from stab wounds in South Yorkshire on Sunday. Police officers found the girl at a property in Holywell Heights, in the Wincobank area of Sheffield, just before 6am on Sunday, following reports concerning her safety. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
A postmortem examination confirmed the baby died from stab wounds, South Yorkshire police stated on Tuesday. Seven people were initially arrested on suspicion of murder, with two individuals, aged 26 and 37, subsequently released on bail.
DCI Tom Woodward of South Yorkshire police said the investigation is fast-moving and asked the community to avoid speculation. Specialist search officers will remain in the Holywell Heights area as inquiries continue. Police have appealed for anyone with information to contact them, quoting incident number 993 on 30 August 2026.
