A woman has denied being the driver of a luxury supercar involved in a fatal high-speed crash on the M62 in West Yorkshire.
Humaira Batool, from Bradford, is currently on trial at Leeds Crown Court, accused of causing the death by dangerous driving of Mohammed Shaan Hussain, 20, also from Bradford.
The incident occurred in the early hours of 21 December 2022, near Ripponden, between junctions 22 and 23, while the pair were travelling in a hired Lamborghini Urus.
Prosecutor Christopher Dunn told jurors that CCTV footage allegedly shows Ms Batool moving from the passenger seat to the driver's seat before the crash. He stated the Lamborghini was driven by Ms Batool "at grossly excessive speeds of up to 143mph [230 km/h], in wet conditions on the M62 motorway."
The court heard that the car was travelling at approximately 120mph as it passed a landmark on the M62, before coming to a standstill eight seconds later after leaving the carriageway, striking a barrier, and overturning. Ms Batool was later found on a grass verge, while Mr Hussain was trapped in the wreckage.
Ms Batool reportedly told witnesses that flames melted her seatbelt, allowing her to escape, and later informed police she had been asleep as a passenger. The prosecution alleges she was driving and attempting to distance herself from responsibility.
