Caleb Flynn, a former Ohio music pastor who appeared on American Idol, was found guilty on Tuesday of killing his wife while having an affair. Mr Flynn, 40, was convicted of aggravated murder in the February shooting of Ashley Flynn, 37, a schoolteacher and volleyball coach.
Mr Flynn had pleaded not guilty and made a 911 call claiming a burglar had killed his wife. Prosecutors argued that Mr Flynn staged a break-in at their home in Tipp City to mislead investigators.
During the trial, an assistant Miami county prosecutor, Matthew Joseph, stated that Mr Flynn wanted to end his marriage but did not want to lose his daughters, his job at his wife's family business, or his church position. A woman who testified to having an affair with Mr Flynn stated he had expressed hatred for his wife and thoughts of killing her.
Mr Flynn's defence attorney, Patrick Mulligan, told the jury that investigators did not find a gun or evidence that Mr Flynn had fired a weapon that day. Mr Mulligan argued that Mr Flynn's infidelity did not equate to murder.
