A former Bristol pub, The Old Tavern in Stapleton, is nearing completion of its conversion into a 33-bed purpose-built student accommodation scheme. Shawbrook provided £3.1m in development finance for the project.

The redevelopment involved converting and extending the Grade II listed property, alongside the construction of a new two-storey building within its grounds. The completed scheme will feature a mix of cluster and studio accommodation, including en-suite bedrooms, communal areas, and amenity space.

The project, which carries an estimated gross development value of approximately £4.6m, required specialist financing due to its listed status and complex planning and construction considerations. The 16-month financing facility is expected to align with the project's delivery timeline.

Why this matters: The development adds to Bristol's student accommodation market and represents a trend of converting heritage buildings for student housing.
