Mike Slade OBE, a prominent figure in the UK property industry, has died at the age of 80. The London property developer and investor Helical announced the death of its former chief executive and chairman.
Slade spent 35 years leading Helical, initially reversing his private property business into the then-listed Helical Bar in 1984. He served as chief executive for more than three decades, followed by three years as chairman, before retiring from the board in 2019.
Helical described Slade as "one of the defining figures" in the company's history, crediting his entrepreneurial approach with transforming the company into a major property developer. Helical chairman Robert Fowlds called Slade "a titan of the property industry," while chief executive Matthew Bonning-Snook described him as "a truly inspiring leader and a force of nature."
Beyond Helical, Slade played a significant role in the property industry charity LandAid, where the organisation raised approximately £20m during his presidency. He also chaired the appeal for the Oak Cancer Centre at The Royal Marsden in Sutton, which opened in 2023 after a £70m fundraising campaign.
