Former Leicestershire council leader denies sexual assault charge

Philip Allnatt, a former leader of Melton Borough Council, has denied a charge of sexual assault at Leicester Magistrates' Court.

Philip Allnatt, a former leader of Melton Borough Council, has denied sexually assaulting a woman. Mr Allnatt, 76, appeared at Leicester Magistrates' Court on Monday, 14 September 2026, where he pleaded not guilty to the charge of sexual assault.

Mr Allnatt, from Melton Mowbray, was charged with sexual assault and harassment without violence last month. He chose to have the case tried at Leicester Crown Court, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS).

Justice Michael O'Dell agreed to bail conditions and ordered Mr Allnatt to attend Leicester Crown Court on 2 November. Mr Allnatt was the leader of Melton Borough Council from May 2023 and announced in April that he would step down as leader. He currently represents the Melton Egerton ward.
