A 16-year-old boy from Nottingham has been charged with a terrorism offence. The teenager, a white Polish national, was arrested by officers from Counter Terrorism Policing East Midlands (CTPEM) on Friday.
He was charged the following day with engaging in conduct in preparation to commit terrorist acts, contrary to section 5 of the Terrorism Act 2006.
The boy, who cannot be identified due to his age, is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court in London on Monday.
Det Insp Steve Shaw from CTPEM stated that while the arrest and charge may cause concern, police will continue to work with Nottinghamshire Police and partners to act on potential threats. He added that public support is vital for community safety.
