Philip Allnatt, the former Labour leader of Melton Borough Council, has been charged with sexually assaulting a woman, Leicestershire Police said.
Mr Allnatt, 76, from Melton Mowbray, was charged on Friday with one count of sexual assault in relation to an alleged incident in February 2026. He also faces a charge of alleged harassment without violence between December 2025 and February 2026.
Mr Allnatt is due to appear at Leicester Magistrates' Court on 14 September. He was elected borough council leader in May 2023 but stepped down from the role on 2 April due to ill health. He continues to represent the Melton Egerton Ward on the council.
