Three men have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a Filipino crew member of a cargo ship was attacked in a suspected hate crime in Avonmouth, near Bristol, on Friday evening. Two other men, also from the Philippines, were assaulted during the incident.
Police arrested two men, aged 19 and 45, and a 17-year-old boy, on suspicion of attempted murder. A 38-year-old woman was also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. All four remain in custody.
Emergency services were called to Richmond Terrace, close to Avonmouth Docks, at around 20:30 BST. One man was taken to hospital with serious injuries and remains in a critical condition. A second crew member required treatment but has since been discharged, while a third sustained minor injuries.
Superintendent Deepak Kenth confirmed all three victims were Filipino nationals and stated that police are treating the incident as a suspected hate crime due to reports of racist language being used. He added that police believe it to be an isolated incident with no wider risk to public safety.
