Four arrested and over four tonnes of illegal meat seized in Dudley

Four men have been arrested and approximately four and a quarter metric tonnes of illegal meat removed from the market following a joint operation in Dudley.

A joint operation involving Dudley Council, the National Food Crime Unit (NFCU), West Midlands Police, HMRC, and the Home Office led to the arrests at an unapproved meat cutting plant in Dudley.
During the operation, approximately four and a quarter metric tonnes of illegal meat were seized. The local authority took enforcement action due to immediate food safety concerns.
The NFCU is now examining recovered product details and paperwork, and has initiated a criminal investigation. Will Simpson, Regional Intelligence Officer at the FSA’s NFCU, stated that the operation is part of ongoing work to disrupt the illegal meat trade.
Councillor Patrick Harley, Leader of Dudley Council, thanked the agencies involved, highlighting the importance of partnership working in protecting residents and maintaining confidence in the food supply chain.
