Members of the public aged 55 and over can have their simple wills written or updated for free during October's Free Wills Month. This initiative brings together a group of charities and participating solicitors across England, Northern Ireland, and Wales.
The service is available for individuals and couples, with mirror wills offered if one partner is over 55. While leaving a gift to a charity is encouraged, it is not mandatory to receive a free will.
More complex wills, such as those involving business inheritance, may incur a fee, which will be clarified during the application process. Jim Emsley, founder of ELM Legal Services, highlighted the importance of having a clear, legally binding will to ensure an estate is distributed as desired.
