Gaten Matarazzo, known for his role as Dustin Henderson in Netflix's Stranger Things, has made his West End debut. He is currently playing Mark in a modern revival of the rock musical Rent in London.
Matarazzo, who shot to fame in 2016, described his role in Stranger Things as "the greatest honour of his life." He noted that having a proper schedule and staying hydrated for his theatre role is a "refreshing change" from filming the series, which concluded last December after five seasons.
The actor has previous stage experience, having performed on Broadway as a child. He expressed his enjoyment of the theatre schedule, stating, "I've always thrived under a schedule and when I don't have one I feel insane."
In Rent, Matarazzo's character Mark is a struggling filmmaker who chronicles the lives of his friends. The show, which first opened off-Broadway 30 years ago, explores themes that Matarazzo believes still resonate today, such as information overload.
Matarazzo is booked to perform in Rent until 10 January at The Tom Stoppard Theatre, London.
