The Great Britain women's flag football team missed their initial chance to qualify for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, but a second opportunity awaits them on Sunday. The non-contact version of American football is set to debut at LA28, with two spots available for both men and women at this weekend's World Championships in Germany.
After topping their group and defeating Panama 26-20 in the quarter-finals, GB faced the USA in the semi-finals. Despite leading 21-7 in the first half with touchdowns from Grace Conway, Angelica Tait, and Emily Kemp, the defending champions USA rallied to win 27-21.
However, with the USA automatically qualifying for LA28 as hosts, the winner of Sunday's bronze-medal game will secure the remaining Olympic spot on offer in Dusseldorf. GB, ranked third in the world and winners of the last two European Championships, will compete for this crucial spot.
The GB men's team recorded their first win of the tournament, beating Austria 28-20 after an earlier 50-35 loss to Switzerland. They are scheduled to play Brazil on Sunday to determine 13th and 14th place.
