Girl, 6, dies and another child injured in A12 crash

A six-year-old girl has died and another child was injured in a collision involving a lorry and a car on the A12 on Monday, Essex Police said.

A six-year-old girl has died and another child was injured following a collision on the A12 on Monday, Essex Police have confirmed. The incident, involving a lorry and a car, occurred at approximately 10:30 BST on the northbound carriageway near the Colchester United football stadium.

The injured child suffered a leg injury and is currently recovering in hospital. Det Insp Mark Fraser of Essex Police stated that specialist officers are supporting the deceased girl's family.

The A12 was shut in both directions following the crash, with an air ambulance landing at the scene. The lorry driver passed all road-side tests and is due to be interviewed in the coming days, according to Det Insp Fraser. Detectives are currently investigating the circumstances of the incident, and witnesses or those with dashcam footage are urged to contact Essex Police.
