Two individuals accused of trafficking teenagers to Thailand as part of an international drug ring have appeared in court. Tremaine Jeanne, from Llanrumney, and Jessica Sani, from Newport, both 28, are charged with drug offences and conspiring to arrange the travel of another with a view to exploitation.
It is alleged they used two 17-year-olds as drug couriers. The teenagers, from Cardiff, were arrested in Thailand in June after being caught with 64kg of cannabis in their suitcases while travelling back to the UK. They remain in custody in Thailand and are being supported by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
Jeanne and Sani appeared via video link and were not asked to enter pleas. They were remanded in custody and are due to appear at Cardiff Crown Court on 4 September with their co-accused. South Wales Police launched an investigation in June after being informed of the teenagers' arrests.
