Glenapp Castle in South Ayrshire offers ocean safari experiences, including a day trip to Ailsa Craig, an island located nine miles offshore. The excursion involves a boat trip from the port town of Girvan, where visitors are advised to prepare for potentially swelly waters.
Ailsa Craig, measuring 2.5 miles in circumference, is estimated to host approximately 70,000 birds, with gannets being prominent. Other species such as razorbills and kittiwakes have also been observed. Beyond seabirds, seals and porpoises have been spotted in the surrounding waters, which are described as a prime feeding ground.
The island itself features abandoned buildings and crumbling outhouses, remnants of past human habitation, but is now largely dominated by its bird population. Visitors can disembark on a pontoon to explore the island.
