A Sydney court has heard that bloodied belongings, including brand new AFL shorts and a Qantas card, were found in a dumpster two days after football umpire Jesse Baird and flight attendant Luke Davies were allegedly murdered.
Beau Lamarre-Condon, 31, is accused of fatally shooting the couple with his police service weapon in Baird’s Paddington home on 19 February 2024. He has pleaded not guilty to two counts of murder and one charge of aggravated break and enter.
A statement from Craig Scott, a greenskeeper at Cronulla Bowls Club, was read in the NSW supreme court on Tuesday. Scott detailed how he and a co-worker discovered several black plastic bin bags in a skip bin on 21 February 2024, noting they had not been there the previous day. Upon opening a bag, Scott found a piece of brown clothing with red stains, which he believed looked like dried blood.
The prosecution alleges Lamarre-Condon began cleaning the crime scene immediately after the shootings before dumping items in the skip bin. Crown prosecutor Brett Hatfield SC alleged Lamarre-Condon had dinner with a friend in Cronulla on 20 February 2024, and his friend pointed out a skip bin after the police officer mentioned needing to find one.
Defence lawyer John Stratton SC stated that Baird and Davies were fatally shot in "self-defence" following struggles with the policeman. The jury was told that Lamarre-Condon immediately began cleaning the scene because he "panicked." The trial before justice Natalie Adams continues.
