Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has commended his teammates' "character" after they achieved a decisive 3-0 victory over Liverpool at Anfield. This match marked City's first outing since the announcement of a guilty verdict regarding breaches of the Premier League's financial regulations.

The league leaders, who are appealing the verdict, faced a challenging fixture at Anfield but emerged triumphant. The game saw Liverpool's Ryan Gravenberch sent off just after the hour mark for a second yellow card offence. City capitalised on the numerical advantage, with Haaland scoring the opener, followed by goals from Jeremy Doku and Rayan Cherki.

Haaland specifically praised midfielder Elliot Anderson, who was named man of the match, and emphasised the team's mental fortitude. "It was tough, it was hard but we showed amazing character from back to front. So proud of everyone," he stated, highlighting the importance of staying strong mentally and fighting together.

City's victory maintains their perfect start to the season, giving them 18 points from 18 and a three-point lead over Arsenal. Their next fixture is a Champions League match against PSG in midweek, followed by a domestic game at home against Ipswich on Saturday, 17 October.
