Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid have kicked off their bid for a sixth US Open wheelchair doubles title with a dominant opening victory. The British top seeds defeated Frenchman Stephane Houdet and China's Zhenxu Ji 6-3 6-1 to secure their spot in the semi-finals.
The formidable pair, who boast 25 Grand Slam doubles titles together, are set to face Japan's Tokito Oda and Argentina's Gustavo Fernandez next. Oda and Fernandez were the champions at Flushing Meadows in 2025.
Elsewhere on Tuesday, Britain's Andy Lapthorne also enjoyed a winning start in the quad wheelchair doubles. Partnering with South Africa's Leon Els, they overcame Americans David Wagner and Andrew Bogdanov with a 7-6 (7-5) 6-1 scoreline. However, Greg Slade and Australian Heath Davidson faced disappointment, suffering a 6-0 6-0 defeat against top seeds Niels Vink and Guy Sasson.
