HSE develops new dashboard to commercialise workplace safety data

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has developed a beta version of an interactive dashboard using RIDDOR data to help users understand workplace safety risks and trends.

  • The RIDDOR dashboard transforms injury, disease, and incident data into visual insights.
  • The project received support and funding from GOTT to develop a commercial pathway.
  • HSE is exploring potential routes to market, including a subscription-based platform.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has created a beta version of an interactive dashboard designed to commercialise its Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations (RIDDOR) dataset. This dashboard aims to transform official records of work-related incidents into insights, making it easier for users to understand workplace health and safety risks and trends.

The development of the RIDDOR dashboard, which falls outside HSE's standard operations, received support from GOTT. This assistance included market research, grant funding, and advice on its value proposition and potential routes to market, such as a subscription-based platform.

HSE reported that the project has fostered a stronger commercial mindset within the organisation. It has also prompted senior-level discussions regarding more formal Knowledge Asset management structures.

Why this matters: The dashboard has the potential to help employers, regulators, and industry stakeholders identify trends and improve decision-making to create safer workplaces.
