Top seed Luke Humphries suffered a surprise 6-3 defeat against Dirk van Duijvenbode in the second round of the Hungarian Darts Trophy. The 31-year-old world number two, who entered the tournament at this stage, recorded an average of 92.67 in Budapest.
Van Duijvenbode, 34, ranked 21st in the world, sealed his victory with a superb 140 checkout when leading 4-3.
Elsewhere, three-time world champion Michael van Gerwen avoided an early exit by recovering from a 3-1 deficit to beat James Hurrell 6-4. The 37-year-old is now set to face Nathan Aspinall, who also won his match against Ryan Joyce by the same scoreline. Jonny Clayton and Gary Anderson also progressed comfortably, alongside Gian van Veen, Dave Chisnall, Josh Rock, Stephen Bunting, Chris Dobey, Danny Noppert, Ryan Searle and Ross Smith. Rob Cross, who previously beat Beau Greaves on her European Tour debut, defeated Luke Woodhouse to advance.
