Warrington Wolves held off a late Hull FC fightback to clinch a 16-14 victory on Saturday, securing their sixth successive win and keeping their hopes for a top-two finish in the Super League alive. The Wolves now sit two points behind Leeds Rhinos and Wigan Warriors in the standings.
The scores were tied at 2-2 in the first half before Warrington scored back-to-back tries through Leon Hayes and Matty Ashton. Josh Thewlis extended Warrington's lead in the second half while Hull FC were down to 12 men after Ligi Sao was sin-binned.
Hull FC rallied with tries from Ethan O'Neill and Tom Briscoe, cutting Warrington's lead to two points. Briscoe's try was his 233rd career score and came in his final home appearance for Hull before retiring. Despite Hull's push for another score, Warrington held on for the win.
Warrington are set to play fourth-placed Wakefield next Saturday, while Hull will travel to Toulouse Olympique on Friday.
