Hundreds of people are reported missing following flash floods in parts of Nepal on Wednesday, 26 August 2026. The floods, triggered by an avalanche of ice and rock, have reportedly killed at least eight people and caused extensive damage to villages and infrastructure.
Officials state that 384 tourists are among the missing, with 291 of these individuals from countries including the United Kingdom, India, the United States, and Malaysia. The Bhotekoshi River flooded, destroying several villages, roads, and hydropower projects.
Warnings have been issued to residents in several of Nepal's districts, advising them to stay away from the banks of the Bhotekoshi, Trishuli, and Narayani rivers. The areas of Syapru Besi and Timure in the mountainous district of Rasuwa are reported to be severely affected.
