Supermarket chain Iceland has announced plans to open a shop on the Falkland Islands in early December. The store will be located in the capital, Stanley.
This new shop, launched in partnership with local retailer Kelper Stores, will be the first UK high street brand to establish a presence in the British territory.
Richard Walker, Iceland's executive chair, stated that the company is "proud to be backing Britain" and that bringing Iceland to Stanley is a significant moment for the business and its international aspirations. Lord Walker plans to visit the Falklands to officially open the store.
This development follows recent statements from Argentine President Javier Milei, who reiterated his nation's sovereignty claims over the islands and pledged to sanction oil companies operating there.
