An indie developer, Vidit Bhargava, has created an app for the upcoming iPhone Duo that aims to replicate the experience of using a classic Walkman. The app, named Duo-Man, takes advantage of the iPhone Duo's foldable 7.6-inch inner display and 5.4-inch outer display.
Users can open the Duo to select music and "insert" a virtual cassette tape, then close the device to begin listening. Bhargava reportedly recorded actual Walkman button clicks and static noise to enhance the app's authentic feel.
The app was initially developed for the Bitrig hackathon this past weekend, where it secured second place. Following its demonstration, Bhargava posted about Duo-Man on X, where it quickly garnered over 1.8 million views and nearly 10,000 likes. This attention has prompted Bhargava to develop the hackathon project into a full application.
When released, Duo-Man is planned to support Apple Music and local files, with a feature allowing an Apple Pencil to "roll" the cassette loop. Spotify support may be added later.
