Mavi, an AI-powered talent marketplace founded in 2023, has emerged from stealth with $4 million in seed funding, the company announced on Monday. The round was led by Harlem Capital and had not been announced until Monday.
The service connects US companies with AI-proficient global financial and accounting talent, aiming to onboard placements within days, according to co-CEO Molly Liu. Mavi says it focuses on full-time, long-term placements for mid-level and senior-level positions, and handles cross-border contracts, legal and compliance, and payroll.
Liu said the US accounting profession is shrinking and that those remaining are not necessarily fluent in the AI skills needed to help enterprises grow. She said many US companies are reluctant to work with global talent because hiring and managing it is complex or because they doubt the talent is good enough.
She also said AI will automate away many entry-level roles in finance and accounting, which will further exacerbate the talent shortage at the mid-level experience level as fewer entry-level staff grow into mid-level roles over time.
Mavi says it now has more than 3,000 accounting professionals on its platform and enterprise clients that include the personal care company Athena Club.
