An inquest has heard there is reason to suspect the death of Dr Mark Deakin, 53, was "unnatural". Dr Deakin, from Winsford, Cheshire, was found collapsed in his car on 24 June and died nine days later in hospital.
Coroner's officer Amanda Edgar told the inquest that the hearing was being held "due to there being reason to suspect that the circumstances of Dr Deakin's death are unnatural". Cheshire Police received a call raising concerns for Dr Deakin on 23 June.
Dr Deakin worked at the Countess of Chester Hospital alongside serial killer Lucy Letby during the period she committed murders and attempted murders in 2015 and 2016. He had been granted lifetime anonymity when he gave evidence at Letby's trial, but reporting restrictions were lifted after his death.
Senior Coroner for Cheshire Jacqueline Devonish has scheduled a pre-inquest review for 22 January, with the full inquest set for 23 and 24 February.
