Longley Park Sixth Form Academy in Sheffield has closed today, 23 September 2026, following two linked firearms incidents in the early hours of the morning. South Yorkshire Police were called to reports of shots fired at a property in Swanbourne Road at about 04:31 BST.
Eleven minutes later, at approximately 04:42 BST, officers responded to a similar attack on a property in Horninglow Road, near the college. Police said both incidents were carried out by two men on an electric-style bike. No injuries were reported in either shooting.
Longley Park Sixth Form Academy stated it was "not in any way connected" to the shooting but closed its building to staff and students due to a police cordon affecting access to Horninglow Road. Supt Martin Simcock said officers would work to bring suspects to justice and there would be an increased police presence in the area.
