Iran is grappling with a series of internal crises while engaged in an escalating five-month war with the United States. The conflict has broadened to involve Yemen, Iraq, and now Egypt, with advocates for escalation reportedly gaining influence within Iran.
Internally, Iran faces challenges including public executions, a rising cost of living, and alleged bias from the state broadcaster. President Masoud Pezeshkian has cautioned that economic pressures could lead to social discontent, potentially undermining public support for the government.
A growing threat of a prolonged diplomatic deadlock exists due to mutual distrust, with neither side believing the other will adhere to agreements. Critics within Iran, including 268 political activists, have called for a public vote on the war, stating that the majority oppose it.
The government has also openly criticised the national broadcaster, IRIB, for alleged censorship of presidential speeches and unilateral reporting, which it claims undermines national cohesion.
