An Israeli airstrike in southern Lebanon resulted in one fatality and 11 injuries, the Lebanese ministry of health reported. This incident is among the deadliest bombings since the ceasefire began in June.
The Lebanese health ministry stated that the airstrike hit a cemetery in the town of Tebnine. The town of al-Mansouri, also in southern Lebanon, was bombed, leading to families evacuating the area.
Approximately 30 minutes before the strike, the Israeli military issued a displacement order. It stated that the operation aimed to destroy Hezbollah's infrastructure in response to the group's “violation of the ceasefire.”
Wednesday marked the first time Israel has issued such a displacement order since the June ceasefire. Previously, these orders were a near-daily occurrence during the recent round of Hezbollah-Israel fighting, which commenced on 2 March and displaced over 1 million people in Lebanon.
Talks between the Lebanese government and Israel for a more permanent peace are ongoing, with a meeting held in Rome on Tuesday. The Lebanese government seeks Israel’s withdrawal, while Israel desires the disarmament of Hezbollah.
