Newcastle United head coach Matthias Jaissle has stated he is "aware" of the team's needs following a 3-1 pre-season friendly defeat to Everton at Murrayfield. The match, played just over a week before the new Premier League season begins, highlighted areas for improvement both on the training pitch and in the transfer market.
Everton secured their goals through Thierno Barry in the 27th minute, Iliman Ndiaye from a penalty, and Tyrique George in the 73rd minute. Substitute Harvey Barnes scored a consolation goal for Newcastle after Jacob Murphy's cross.
Jaissle noted the team's youth, with eight starters aged 25 or under, and referenced a "vacuum" in the squad after the departures of Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali, Anthony Gordon, and Kieran Trippier. Newcastle are reportedly still in the market for a right-back and an older central midfielder, with the possibility of another addition before the transfer window closes on 1 September.
