Jeffrey Archer, the prolific author known for page-turning plots, died on Monday at the age of 86. His passing occurred the day before the scheduled release of "Adam and Eve," which he had described as his final novel after a 50-year career in storytelling.
His publisher, HarperCollins, confirmed that Archer died "suddenly and peacefully at his home between writing sessions." News of his death prompted an outpouring of tributes, particularly from readers in India, a country he often referred to as his biggest market.
Archer's books were best-sellers in India, with many of his later works even receiving their earliest release dates there. He once told the PTI news agency in 2020 that his appearance at the Jaipur Literature Festival in 2019 drew nearly 8,000 people, describing it as "like a concert." He attributed his connection to India partly to a shared love for cricket, calling the people of India his "natural friends."
