JioHotstar, the streaming platform controlled by Indian conglomerate Reliance Industries, has launched in the UK, Canada, and Singapore, marking its first expansion outside India. The service replaces Hotstar in these markets, which ceased to exist on September 2.
The new platform offers more than 160,000 hours of entertainment content, including Indian films, TV originals, reality shows like Bigg Boss, and live TV channels such as Star Plus and Colors. Content is available in 12 languages, including English, Hindi, and Malayalam, with dubs and translations.
Notably, JioHotstar will not feature live sports at launch, a significant departure from its offering in India, where sports content, including the Indian Premier League, is a major draw for its over 500 million monthly active users. The company cited existing content deals for the absence of sports but did not rule out adding them in the future.
Subscriptions in the UK are priced at £19.99 quarterly and £69.99 annually. Existing Hotstar users in the UK, Canada, and Singapore can use their current login credentials on the new JioHotstar app, which is available on mobile devices via the App Store and Google Play Store, as well as on connected TVs.
