Star Trek fans to attempt Vulcan salute world record at Science Museum

Hundreds of Star Trek fans are set to gather at London's Science Museum to try and set a Guinness World Record for the largest simultaneous Vulcan salute.

  • The record attempt will take place on 8 September, known as Star Trek Day.
  • The Science Museum will host the event, which includes a final opportunity to experience the Star Trek Warp Trail.
  • No current world record exists for the largest simultaneous Vulcan salute.

Hundreds of Star Trek fans are preparing to gather at London's Science Museum on 8 September to attempt to set a Guinness World Record. The aim is to achieve the largest simultaneous Vulcan salute, a gesture popularised by Leonard Nimoy's character Spock in the TV series.

The record attempt coincides with Star Trek Day and, if verified by an adjudicator, would establish a new world record as none currently exists in this category. Glyn Morgan, principal curator at the museum, noted Star Trek's 60-year connection to themes of science, technology, and future possibilities, which align with the museum's focus.

Attendees will also have a final chance to experience the Star Trek Warp Trail, included with the event ticket. Exhibits on the trail include chief engineer Scotty's uniform, worn by Simon Pegg in the 2009 film, and Admiral Jean-Luc Picard's uniform, worn by Sir Patrick Stewart in Star Trek: Picard.
