England captain Joe Root held a 'robust' team discussion on Tuesday, setting out his expectations for player behaviour. This followed fast bowler Brydon Carse's brief arrest outside a Derby venue on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly.

Root, who recently returned as skipper, described himself as "hacked off" when responding to questions about the incident. Carse has been dropped from the squad pending an inquiry by the Cricket Regulator.

Fast bowler Josh Tongue revealed that Root's message was clear, stating, "We had a chat before training yesterday as Joe said. It was a very good conversation and he made it clear what he expects from us." Tongue emphasised the need for the team to be professional and move on from recent off-field issues.

Tongue, one of eight centrally contracted players involved in late-night incidents recently, highlighted the privilege of playing for England. He is still awaiting his first multi-match Test series victory, with the upcoming second Rothesay Test against Pakistan at Lord's presenting an opportunity.
