Jordan Cox, playing in only his second Test appearance, made a significant impact with his maiden half-century, scoring 73 runs at number three for England. His performance helped England establish a 195-run lead over Pakistan in the first Rothesay Test at Headingley.
Former England captain Michael Vaughan lauded Cox as a "proper player" following his innings. Vaughan, speaking on BBC Sport’s Test Match Special, noted Cox's composure and shot-making, comparing some of his punches through the covers to those of AB de Villiers.
England finished a rain-affected second day on 366 for eight, with four of their top six batters passing 50. Harry Brook was the top-scorer with 91, captain Joe Root contributed 66, and Dan Lawrence added 51.
Cox, who missed a scheduled debut in December 2024 due to a broken thumb, expressed a desire to convert his strong start into an even bigger score. He stated, "I think I let myself down a tiny bit but at the end of the day you take 70-odd don’t you?"
