Anthony Joshua has disclosed that he is in contact with Peter Fury, the uncle and former trainer of Tyson Fury. This revelation comes as the two former world champion heavyweights prepare to face each other in Cardiff this December.
Peter Fury previously trained Tyson Fury when he secured his first world heavyweight title in 2015 against Wladimir Klitschko. The uncle and nephew reportedly had a falling out over a financial dispute and have not spoken for many years.
Joshua confirmed he last spoke to Peter Fury about a month ago, stating, “He’s willing to help me as well.” He added that the discussions are focused on his own training and approach to the fight, rather than gaining insight into Tyson Fury.
Ben Davison is set to train Joshua for the fight. Davison also previously worked with Tyson Fury, helping him return to boxing in 2018. Tyson Fury expressed surprise when informed that Davison would be in Joshua’s corner.
At a press conference in London, Tyson Fury vowed to “blast him out,” while Joshua responded, “I don’t expect anything else from this man than him saying he’s going to render me unconscious.” The traditional face-off between the two fighters passed peacefully.
